NYCAA Dress Code

Students are required to wear appropriate clothing for each course they are taking. It is important for safety that students come to class properly dressed. If a student arrives without proper attire, the instructor may not allow him or her to participate in some or all of the class activities.

General Dress Code

  • All clothing must be appropriate for physical activity.
  • ALL jewelry including visible piercings must be removed before the start of class.
  • Men are required to wear a dance belt or support brief.
  • Long hair must be tied back or braided.

Course-Specific Dress Codes

Aerial Acrobatics, Silk, Trapeze

  • A unitard or leotard (form fitting garment which wraps over shoulders, covers the midsection and passes between legs). A tucked-in t-shirt is not appropriate, as it may pull out and cause skin abrasion.
  • Form-fitting tights or workout pants that cover the backs of the knees. Two pairs of tights, or a pair of tights underneath workout pants will help avoid skin abrasion.
  • Loose clothing should not be worn, particularly on the legs, and slick fabrics such as parachute pants and wind pants are not appropriate as they will cause slipping on the apparatus.
◊ The following items should be brought to class, to be worn when necessary
  • A form-fitting long-sleeved shirt lightweight enough to be worn during class, that covers the arm completely from wrist to shoulder.
  • Socks that cover above the ankle.

Chinese Pole

  • A form-fitting shirt of any length.
  • Shorts that leave the back of the knee uncovered.
  • Flat-bottomed shoes with a high-traction grip pattern, such as aqua socks, gum-soled kung fu shoes, or Keds®.

  • A form-fitting shirt of any length.
  • Form-fitting shorts that cover to mid-thigh. Form-fitting pants or tights may be worn over these for some of class, but must be able to be removed when necessary.

  • A form-fitting shirt of any sleeve length.
  • Form-fitting shorts, tights or pants.
