What happens when New Yorkers run away and join the circus? They find their way, from all walks of life, to the New York Circus Arts, where they train in the contemporary circus arts under industry professionals.
Circus Arts training with NYCA is an exhilarating, artistic and unique experience for people of all ages, fitness levels and body types. Courses in the Recreational program are oriented toward students who wish to explore and hone skills in circus arts as seen in contemporary shows such as those performed by Cirque du Soleil. The Recreational curriculum is designed for students of all skill levels, and is challenging but fun. By participating, students strengthen their bodies in ways they never thought possible, increase flexibility and stamina, and improve body alignment and core stability.
Classes are divided into student workgroups based on skill level, experience and achievement in previous coursework. Clear, concise instruction eases participants into new skills one step at a time. Students may participate in any course designated as recreational or combo for which they have fulfilled the prerequisites. Students in the recreational program may audit pro courses with the instructor's permission. Please contact the NYCA office for additional information about skill level placement.
