Workouts

NYCAA is happy to provide workout sessions as an opportunity for students to get extra practice time. Workouts are a time for students to train in a self-directed environment; to gain repetition on skills; and build strength, confidence, and experience. In workouts, students should expect to arrive at the start time, warm themselves up appropriately, work at their own pace, stretch out as needed, and leave on their own time. Workouts are held several times per week, and are open to all NYCAA students and alumni. Students are encouraged to come to workout as many times as possible.

Participation in workouts is an essential component of training, however it is also a privilege that must be handled with the same degree of safety and responsibility as class time.

  • Workouts are intended for students to practice material learned in NYCAA courses. Experimentation and improvisation are not appropriate unless they are part of assigned coursework.
  • Students must work in spotting teams. Spotters must be on their feet, less than an arm's-length from their partner, or as directed.
  • Only NYCAA faculty may instruct material at the Academy. During workout, students should not instruct other students unless directed.
  • Students in workout should not interrupt classes which are in session unless it is a matter of immediate safety.
  • Students in workout must yield equipment to scheduled classes as requested.
